Passing in seas and open waters requires special tools and devices. If we want to have a safe journey in the seas and oceans, we must use tools that help guide the vessel correctly. The correct navigation of the vessel is equal to ensuring the life and property of the passengers and the ship's crew. One of the things that must be taken into account during cruises is the speed at which each vessel is allowed to travel. In order to be able to record the speed of a vessel, an electromagnetic speed recording system can be used. In the following, we are going to talk about the walker 4020 MK2 speed recording system, its technical specifications and features.
Walker 4020 MK2 in Dubai, for which vessels is it suitable?
The Walker 4020 (Mk2) speed recording system is capable of recording the speed of all marine vessels. So you can install the walker 4020 in UAE on any vessel of any size. But if you want to know on which vessels it has the best response, we must say that this system is suitable for smaller vessels with a total length of up to 50 meters.
Technical specifications of walker 4020 system in Dubai
The walker 4020 mk2 speed recorder is capable of providing full-scale forward and reverse speeds in the range of -20 to +60 knots and sends NMEA0183 and 200 PPNM signals to other equipment. An important point in the design of this model is its compactness and coherence. This speed recording system consists of only two main components. In fact, its design base has been on reducing the number of required sub-units. Therefore, by combining the speed and distance indicator in one P282 main unit, it made a smaller and lighter unit that is also extremely easy to install. Additionally, the P282 main unit can be conveniently mounted on a console or bracket depending on available space.
Additional features of the device
- Built-in speed simulator
- Removable keyboard for calibration
It is also possible to add modern speed and distance indicators.
The P282 main unit is fully compatible with fixed (P57) or retractable (P99) speed register sensors located in the body fittings, for the various materials used in the body, such as aluminium, steel, GRP and wood.
The application of the retractable log sensor in walker 4020
The Retractable Leg Sensor Garboard (P99) for steel hulls is supplied with a seal assembly (P98) which has been tested to meet GL requirements.
All speed logs sensors are supplied with a 50m cable and connect directly to the P282 main unit. For best performance, the maximum allowable distance between the sensor and the P282 main unit is 50 meters or less.
The way to calculate the distance traveled in this system is that a low frequency AC electromagnetic sensor induces an electric voltage in the sea water. This is detected by two electrodes on the sensor plate and then converted into a reading value on the main unit. The distance traveled is calculated by accurately integrating the value of speed with respect to time.
